Leesburg, VA (November 5, 2010)
– Four Leesburg-based youth flag football teams competed in the NFL Flag Football’s Baltimore Regional Tournament on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at the Baltimore Ravens’ M&T Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland.
Leesburg was represented by two teams in the 9-11 year old age group and two teams in the 12-14 year old age group. All of the Leesburg teams performed well at the tournament, but one of the 9-11 teams, the Leesburg Raiders, had a tournament record of 4 wins and 1 loss, losing only in the championship round.
“It was a remarkable experience for all of us,” said Raiders coach Scott Kallivokas. “We were playing against travel teams with much more experience in tournament play. Our boys really held their own. I can’t imagine how nervous I would have been as a boy playing in a NFL stadium in front of several thousand people.”
Leesburg Raiders team members, pictured below, were Mark Cotton, Zach Garrett, Thomas Irving, Tyler Judd, Nicholas Kallivokas, Mason Price, Jeremy Roach, Jalen Thomas, Ryan Thomas and Hassan Turner. The Raiders were coached by Scott Kallivokas and Richard Thomas.
