With the strong likelihood of Hurricane Sandy affecting our community, the Leesburg Police Department urges residents to take steps NOW to prepare. To provide residents of Leesburg with detailed emergency preparedness information, the Police Department has created a comprehensive guide available on the department’s Web site. The guide titled Town of Leesburg Emergency Preparation Guide March 2012 provides citizens with the necessary tools to plan, and prepare for emergencies and information about the Town of Leesburg’s response plans for different types of emergencies.
Community members are advised to stay informed via media reports and Alert Loudoun/Leesburg (if you are not signed up for alerts, do it now!), Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts and bring in all outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage cans and anything else that is not tied down.
The storm will likely bring heavy rains, high winds and the potential for flooding. Remember do not attempt to drive through a flooded road. The depth of water is not always obvious. The roadbed may be washed out under the water, and you could be stranded or trapped. Do not drive around a barricade. Barricades are there for your protection. Turn around and go the other way.
