The Black History Committee and Loudoun County Public Schools are hosting an open house and ice cream social at the new Frederick Douglass Elementary School, 510 Principal Drummond Way SE (entrance on Plaza Street).
The community is invited to view the permanent exhibit documenting the history of the original school once occupying the site and the struggles of the African American community for equal education.
In 1958, the original Frederick Douglass Elementary School opened as a segregated school for African American students. In 1968, it was integrated in accordance with a U.S. District Court order.
