Bus Service During Snow Emergencies
During snow emergencies, Virginia Regional Transit
provides modified bus service that combines the three normal bus routes into a single route covering the entire Town. This snow route utilizes the Town streets that are designated as “primary routes” and are first priority for snow removal by the Town’s Public Works Department.
When in operation, the snow route will be served by two buses running continuously during normal service hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Download a copy of the VRT Snow Route map here
During snow emergencies, the Safe-T-Ride bypass shuttle will continue to run its normal route, during normal hours of service.
In the event that weather conditions prevent the safe operation of bus service, a cancellation notice will be posted on the Town website.
A snow emergency is declared when two or more inches of snow, sleet or other icy precipitation has accumulated on Town roadways. A snow emergency may be declared in advance of actual snowfall or ice accumulation, when a significant snow or ice event is forecast.
