Leesburg Police Department Adds New Motorcycle Officer
On October 27, 2017, Master Police Officer (MPO) Matt Hackney graduated from the United States Park Police Basic Motor School. The school is considered to be one of the more rigorous and demanding trainings for motor officers. MPO Hackney will join Leesburg’s other motor officer, Stephan Winkler, in the Traffic Management Unit. The Traffic Management Unit has primary responsibility for investigating crashes, coordinating funeral escorts, and performing child safety seat checks.
MPO Hackney joined the Leesburg Police Department in January 2003 and has over 16 years’ experience in law enforcement. Prior coming to Leesburg, MPO Hackney worked as a police officer for the Harpers Ferry Police Department in West Virginia. During his tenure with Leesburg, he has served as a field training officer, a member of the Special Operations Team, and a detective in the Criminal Investigations Section.
